We provide care without distinction. This page explains what that means in practice.

Nondiscrimination
Statement

Dream Estates is a licensed Home for the Aged in Detroit, Michigan. We admit and serve residents without discrimination, and we provide care on equal terms to everyone we serve. This is both a legal requirement under Michigan and federal law and, more to the point, how we believe a care facility should operate.

Our Nondiscrimination Commitment

Dream Estates does not discriminate against any person in admission, care, services, or any other aspect of our operation on the basis of:
Race
Color
Religion or creed
National origin or ancestry
Sex or gender
Age
Disability
Marital status
Source of payment (including Medicaid, Medicare, private pay, or insurance)

This applies to all aspects of care and residency at Dream Estates — admission decisions, room assignment, care planning, level of services, treatment by staff, and access to any program or activity we offer.

A Note on Source of Payment

We specifically include source of payment in this statement because it’s one of the areas where discrimination in senior care is most common and least visible. Families sometimes worry that residents paying through Medicaid receive different care than those paying privately. At Dream Estates, they don’t. Admission eligibility and care quality are determined by clinical need and fit, not by how a resident pays. If you have questions about what payment sources we accept, see our admissions process page or call us directly.

Disability and Accessibility

We provide reasonable accommodations to residents and prospective residents with disabilities, and we do not exclude anyone from admission or care on the basis of a disability. If you have a specific accommodation request or accessibility question, contact our admissions team before or during the inquiry process so we can address it properly.

We comply with applicable provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Language Access

We do not discriminate on the basis of national origin, which includes language. If a resident or family member has limited English proficiency, we work to provide meaningful access to information and services. If you or your parent communicates primarily in a language other than English, mention this when you contact us so we can address it as part of the care planning conversation.

Questions or Concerns

If you believe Dream Estates has not honored this commitment — in an admission decision, in care, or in any other interaction — we want to know. Raise the concern directly with facility leadership first. Complaints are documented in writing and followed up with the complainant once investigated.

If you feel your concern was not adequately addressed internally, you have the right to file a complaint with:

Michigan LARA

Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA): the state agency that licenses and inspects Dream Estates. Complaints can be filed at michigan.gov/lara.

HHS Office for Civil Rights

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights (OCR): for complaints related to federal civil rights laws, including Section 504, the ADA, and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act. File at hhs.gov/ocr or call 1-800-368-1019.

Filing a complaint with any of these bodies does not affect the quality of care provided to a resident at Dream Estates.
