FAQ's

What is assisted living?
Assisted living offers seniors the help they need with the tasks of daily living, a residential community that supports and encourages their independence, and opportunities to live a full and engaging life.
Is there a doctor or nurse on duty?

Each community has a licensed nurse available as needed. Assisted living providers are not required to employ a full-time nurse, but Dream Estates has chosen to do so.

Does Medicare pay for assisted living?
Unfortunately, the answer to this one is “no.” Medicare only covers healthcare related expenses such as a hospital stay or a short-term rehab stay. Because an assisted living community is considered to be for older adults who need custodial care, Medicare will not help with the costs.
Do assisted living communities allow pets?
The answer to this one depends upon the community. Many are pet-friendly but usually have breed and weight limits on dogs.
What are the benefits of assisted living?

The list is long, but here are a few of the many benefits associated with assisted living:

  • Enhanced social life
  • Additional recreational opportunities
  • Daily or weekly help with housekeeping duties
  • Reliable transportation
  • Increased peace of mind
How is assisted living different from a nursing home?
The differences between assisted living and living in a nursing home are vast, but they most notably boil down to this: assisted living does not provide advanced medical care around the clock, whereas Staten Island nursing homes do make medical services and personnel available on a consistent basis. Assisted living is not nursing home living. This distinction is important.
